Breathing Through the Mouth
Another common cause is mouth breathing.
Some people breathe through their mouths during the night, especially when they have a blocked nose due to a cold, allergies, or mild congestion.
When the mouth remains open for several hours, saliva can flow more easily.
If this happens to you often, it may be helpful to check if you breathe mainly through your mouth while you sleep.
Maintaining a good sleep environment, with a well-ventilated room and sufficiently humidified air, can sometimes improve nighttime breathing.
Fatigue and Lack of Sleep
Lack of sleep can also influence how the body relaxes during the night.
After a period of intense fatigue or stress, some people enter a deep sleep more quickly.
During these deeper sleep phases, muscles relax more, which can promote nighttime salivation.
It is often a temporary phenomenon that disappears when the sleep pattern becomes more regular again.
