A sleeping position on your side or on your stomach
One of the most common reasons for nighttime salivation is the position in which you sleep.
People who sleep on their side or stomach are more likely to drool during the night.
In these positions, gravity naturally causes saliva to flow outwards from the mouth rather than towards the back of the throat.
Conversely, people who sleep on their backs generally have less visible salivation, because saliva stays more easily in the mouth.
This does not mean that your sleeping position is bad, but simply that it can influence this phenomenon.
Deep and Restorative Sleep
Sometimes, drooling during sleep can simply be a sign that your body is deeply relaxed.
When you sleep deeply, the muscles in your face and jaw relax more.
This relaxation can promote a slight opening of the mouth and therefore the flow of saliva.
In this case, nighttime salivation may simply indicate that your sleep is particularly deep and restorative.
