First: What is this black line? Is it the shrimp's stomach?
Anatomically, this line is neither a blood vessel nor the stomach itself. This black line is the digestive tract (intestine) of the shrimp.
Contents: As it is the intestine, it contains undigested food remains, shrimp droppings, sand and small stones that the shrimp may have swallowed when feeding on the seabed.
Color: Its color varies depending on what the shrimp has eaten recently. It can be dark black, gray, or even clear if the bowel is empty.
Location: Runs along the back (external curvature). The line that can be seen on the abdomen (internal curvature) is the nerve cord of the shrimp. It is white and usually goes unnoticed.
