You may have seen this challenge circulating on social media: a photo showing several babies accompanied by a question inviting internet users to "guess which one is the girl" based on their appearance, personality traits, or behavior.
Here's the problem: it can't be done, and that's precisely the crux of the matter.
🚫  Why is this challenge problematic?
Although these posts often go viral and generate thousands of comments, they raise important questions:
1. Gender is not visible

- Biological sex  and  gender identity  are not the same thing.
- A child's gender identity cannot be determined simply by looking at them.
- Babies do not visibly express their gender identity; this develops over time.
2. This reinforces harmful stereotypes.
These challenges are often based on assumptions such as:
- "The girls are calmer/more discreet"
- "The boys are more active"
- "The girls wear pink clothes" or "they have longer hair."
But personality traits are not tied to gender.  Any baby can be sweet, daring, curious, or shy, regardless of their sex.
3. It is exclusive
- Ignoring intersex  people  (born with variations in sex characteristics).
- Erasing the experiences of transgender  and  non-binary peopleÂ
